The Hunger Games Trilogy

image

This week I started reading this trilogy and last night I finished Mockingjay.

SPOILERS

I absolutely loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, they were so action packed it only took me a few days to read both. I loved the love triangle between Katniss, Gale, and Peeta. I liked that the whole time I never knew which of the boys I wanted Katniss to end up with. In the first two Katniss is strong, defiant, and smart but in Mockingjay I feel she really starts to loose herself. Mockingjay overall was kind of a bummer. The beginning was alright with the introduction of District 13, I liked the idea of them all surviving underground but you could feel how everything was so “ruled”. Although it was necessary for their survival it felt like a mini Capitol. It sucked that Peeta was gone for so much of the book and even while he was gone nothing really developed between Kat and Gale. Then when Peeta was rescued and he was brainwashed I was expecting some big comeback but it never really happened.

The biggest disappointment was the end. It felt so rushed and incomplete. I felt like Kat was unconscious for most of the action and important decisions pertaining to the government and how it would now be ruled and who would be ruling it. They never really developed the new presidents traits was she truly good? Was she going to lead them into a brighter future? I wish they would have kept Katniss around for the election process and her trial.

When Prim died I didn’t really feel anything because it all went by so fast. I don’t see why she killed of Prim if she wasn’t going to explore how it made Kat feel.

The worst part was how she completely wrote Gale out at the end. Like what the fuck happened to him did he and Kat get any kind of closure? What was his role in her future life if there was any role at all. And there was no building of Kat and Peeta’s final relationship just the “somewhere in the distant future” kind of thing. I don’t know maybe I need to reread Mockingjay but right now it’s messing with my head?

If you read it let me know what was your reaction to Mockingjay?
